EcoBloc works like an invisible fence around your facility. The units emit high frequency ultrasonic sound waves that create an acoustically hostile environment to repel rodents. The ultrasonic sound is above the range of human hearing (above 20 kHz) but is extremely distressing to rodents and causes them to move away from the ultrasonic sound (and therefore the building) to alternative means of food and shelter.
EcoBloc is more humane than traps, safer than poisons, environmentally sustainable and completely inaudible to humans. Unlike traps and poisons, EcoBloc also minimizes human contact with disease-bearing rodents.
While EcoBloc units are extremely effective at deterring rodents and can be used as a standalone product, they are best used as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy.
What if there is not another food source nearby to drive rodents to?
Use cases like this are great examples of why EcoBloc can be used in conjunction with other pest control tools. In cases where there is not another food source readily available, you can direct the ultrasonic sound to drive rodents to areas where you can place a trap or bait station.
What does the ultrasonic do to rodents?
Ultrasonic repels rodents by subjecting them to intense auditory stress. Put very simply, the ultrasonic sound is very painful to their ears. Unlike traps and poisons, ultrasound does not kill rodents. This is an animal behaviour modification technique and EcoBloc units can provide long-term reductions in rodent populations by creating a hostile environment that discourages rodent infestations. EcoBloc is a cruelty free and environmentally-friendly solution to rodent control. Most importantly, it is extremely effective.
Will rodents adapt to the ultrasonic rodent repeller?
No. EcoBloc uses a proprietary algorithm to constantly change the ultrasonic sound. This prevents rodents from getting used to the sound.
My business (or home) is near other buildings (or houses). Does this impact a rodent’s habits?
It certainly can. Rodents look for food sources. Since EcoBloc makes it painful for the rodent to approach your building, they will look for a food source elsewhere. If they find it at a nearby building/house, they will stay there because they have found what they are looking for. This process will repeat for new rodents that may approach your business or house for the first time.
I’ve used ultrasonic in the past and it didn’t work or it only worked for a short time. What’s different with EcoBloc?
There’s a lot of cheap, ineffective ultrasonic pest deterrents on the market! EcoBloc has brought together experts in the pest control and tech industries to create a high-end unit that effectively prevents rodent activity.
We’ve innovated in three main ways:
Military-grade components that provide unparalleled power and range specifically for commercial and industrial facilities. The combination of high-end components, and unmatched power creates an ultrasonic sound that is far more intense (and therefore distressing) to rodents.
Our proprietary algorithm constantly changes the ultrasonic intervals so that the rodents can’t become habituated to it. This is a chief complaint of other ultrasonic units; rodents get used to the noise after a couple of days or weeks and stop responding to it.
Unlike other units, our units are specifically designed to be installed on the exterior of a building. Once rodents get inside a building, they have unlimited access to food and shelter. We want to drive rodents away before they get that far – that’s why all of our units are weather-proof. Furthermore, units installed on the interior of a building have a high likelihood of having objects in the way of the unit which limits its effectiveness since ultrasonic can not travel through barriers such as furniture.

Doesn't ultrasound just chase rodents from one place to another? Doesn't it make more sense to kill them with traps and poisons?
Most ultrasonic units on the market are designed for interior use. EcoBloc units are designed for exterior use and will drive rodents away from your facility, rather than to different areas within the facility.
There are also downsides to using traps and poisons. Poisons can endanger animals while both traps and poisons require the handling of potentially disease-bearing rodents. Additionally, new rodent populations will almost always replace the ones you’ve killed. Using ultrasound in your pest control efforts is environmentally sustainable and can result in long-term reductions of rodent populations. Rodents will limit their population to the available food and shelter in their environment.
Can I use EcoBloc indoors?
EcoBloc can be used indoors but only in specific use cases. There are certain limiting factors when used inside. Speak with an EcoBloc professional to determine if your situation makes sense. EcoBloc is safe to use around humans and animals. For more information about the use of ultrasound please reference the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) OSHA Technical Manual Section III: Chapter 5 from the United States Department of Labor, Appendix C-Ultrasound. There may be some subjective effects for a small number of individuals which are outlined in the OSHA manual.
Animals such as dogs which hear in the ultrasonic range will not like being around EcoBloc. You should keep domesticated animals away from areas EcoBloc is installed.
Although EcoBloc can be used indoors, with a proper rodent exclusion plan, you can prevent rodents from entering your building to begin with. This is EcoBloc’s ultimate goal. Please speak with us if you feel an indoor application is best. We will likely be able to help you design an exterior exclusion strategy that will work better.
What’s the range of a EcoBloc unit?
Each EcoBloc unit covers a range of 400 sq ft. However, EcoBloc doesn’t need to be installed to cover every inch of a building. EcoBloc units that are installed at critical rodent ingress areas (such as warehouse doors or entryways) will be enough to effectively protect a commercial facility from rodent exposure. In many cases, a couple of units for a building can do the job.
How are EcoBloc units installed?
EcoBloc units are installed roughly 8-20 ft above the ground facing downwards. They provide an ‘invisible shield’ to effectively drive rodents away. EcoBloc units are powered with between 120V to 305V power and can be hard-wired in, or plugged in.
How do I know how many units I need or where they should be installed?
Our team of industry experts will work closely with you to determine the number and location of units to ensure we eliminate rodent activity on the premises. Schedule a free consultation here.
If I can’t hear it, how do I know it’s working?
The mobile phone app dashboard let’s you know the current status of the unit.
When can I expect results?
You can expect a marked reduction in rodent activity in 7 to 14 days on average.
Can this be used to deter other pests?
Our units are built specifically to deter mice, rats and squirrels. While it should work against certain other rodents and animals, EcoBloc makes no specific claims regarding the effectiveness of our ultrasonic units in repelling other pests and animals because their response to high frequency sound can vary significantly. We are currently working with partners to confirm EcoBloc's efficacy with additional rodents, and birds. Contact us if you would like to discuss your specific problem.
